The best thing about cocktails is the taste, right?
Mocktails, (non alcoholic cocktails) give you the best of both worlds – the great taste and the appearance of drinking without the hangover. They are great to have at your event as an alternative for those who choose to not drink or not continue drinking.
The mocktails we served at Orientation were margarita and pina colada. While we used crushed ice and mix, here are two great recipes you can try at home!
Margarita (makes one serving)
-1/4-2/3 cup sour drink mix
-splash of lime juice
-splash of lemon juice
-you can add different fresh fruits or juices for different flavours!
Put all ingredients in blender. Blend until icy and smooth.
Rim a glass with margarita salt. Place a single lime slice on the rim.
Pina Colada (makes 1 serving)
-3/4 cup pineapple juice
-1/4 cup coconut cream
-you can add some fresh crushed pineapple as well!
Crush ice in blender. Add pineapple juice and coconut cream. Blend briefly, until all ingredients are icy and mixed.
Throw in a maraschino cherry and add a wedge of pineapple to the top of the glass.
Mock champagne (makes 40, 4 ounce servings)
-2, 2 liter bottles ginger ale, chilled
-1, 46 fluid ounce can pineapple juice, chilled
-1, 64 fluid ounce bottle white grape juice, chilled
Mix together. Chill. Enjoy!
Alcohol free Mojitos (makes 14 cups)
-2 cups water
-1 1/2 cups white sugar
-2 cups mint leaves, chopped
-2 cups lime sherbet, softened
-1 cup lime juice
-1 cup water
-8 cup sclub soda
-lime slices for garnish
1.Combine 2 cups water and the sugar in a microwave-safe bowl; heat in microwave on High for 5 minutes. Stir the mint into the water; let stand for 5 minutes. Strain and discard the mint leaves from the syrup; set aside.
2.Stir the lime sherbet, lime juice, and 1 cup water together in a large pitcher until well combined. Pour the mint-infused syrup into the mixture. Add club soda and stir. Serve over ice.
Garnish with lime slices.
Cran-Dandy Cooler (makes 8 servings)
-2 cups cranberry juice
-1 cup pineapple juice
-1 cup orange juice
-1, 4 ounce jar maraschino cherries
-2 table spoons lemon juice
-1, 12 fluid ounce can or bottle of ginger ale
-1 orange, sliced in rounds
In a gallon pitcher combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, cherry juice and lemon juice. Just before serving, slowly add ginger ale; stir to blend. Serve over ice in cups or glasses.
Garnish with cherry and orange slices.
Classic Shirley Temple (makes 1 serving)
-1 cup lemon-lime soda
-2 tbsp grenadine
-1 tbsp orange juice
-orange slice and maraschino cherry
Fill tall glass with ice. Add lemon-lime soda, grenadine, and orange juice. Stir until combined.
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry on a cocktail stick.
